These notes concern car parking facilities either above or below ground and operated on the direct-flow ramp principle. They deal with the client's brief and performance specification, appearance and planning of the car park, its design and geometry (the car, static requirements, layout of car parks, dynamic requirements), vehicular and pedestrian control, design and construction of car parks (classification of above-ground car parks, materials and methods of construction, constraints, design solutions, structural discontinuities and cladding. Underground car parks, design criteria, methods of construction and structural design, and landscaping), lighting, heating and ventilation, fire considerations, waterproofing, drainage, floor finishes and maintenance. A section is devoted to car parks outside the United Kingdom. (TRRL)
