How to track your passport application and what you can do to speed up delivery in an emergency

Following the Prime Minister's surprising claim that all passports are being delivered within six weeks, here is how to check the status of your delayed passport application

Under what circumstances will the Passport Office expedite my application?

Having a holiday or flight booked is not recognised as a circumstance under which the Passport Office will expedite your application. Neither is the need to travel overseas for work.

The Passport Office website lists just three circumstances under which they may be able to assist with urgent travel:

• medical treatment
• a family member or friend is seriously ill
• a family member or friend has died

Travellers with any of these extenuating circumstances should call the passport advice line on 0300 222 0000.

Is there anything else worth trying to expedite my application?

If you haven’t got anywhere over the phone, or via email, then putting your case forward on paper is worth a try.
